Helena Spaina, as Emma calls her, is a sweet and funny little girl who loves to play with her big sister and get into a mess of trouble around the house. She has a funny sense of humor and always looking to see who is watching her. When we were in Croatia she stole a salami out of the Frig. and was caught red handed trying to escape with it into the village. When we got home I got her a new pair of rain boots which she thought was much more fun to wear around the house in a diaper then outside. She also loves our dog Roxi and even though we do not always know what she is saying I think that Roxi understands her the best. This week she has been sick so she has been sleeping more and needing extra cuddles. We are looking forward to when she is back to her up beat self.

School Days
Emma, our 4 1/2 year old, started her first day of kindergarden on Aug 20th. In Switzerland Kindergarden is 2 years and starts when the child is 4.5 or 5. It is similar to preschool in the states. The children will learn social and play skills, confidence and independence, and ways to express themselves through art, play, stories, music, swimming, gymnastics and nature hikes. This year Emma's teacher will have a theme of snails and Dwarfs. She is learning proper high German in the class and I am told that she already speaks very well. Mommy and Daddy are very proud of her. She is growing up so very fast. All the kindergarden children have these yellow hooded poncho to keep them safe when they walk on the streets. Emma look very cute in hers.

Summer 2007
Hello All friend and family,
Not sure what I am doing but was told that a blog is the way to go so I can share the ins and outs of our family. I hope it will also give me a chance to post more picture of the girls and let you know how we are more often.
As of today it is just the 4 of us again. My parents took a sabbatical in May, and started that journey by coming to Switzerland and staying with us for a week before they headed to Africa for 5.5 weeks. Then back to Switzerland to spend time here and in dirrerent places around Europe. This made for a very busy summer in which we joined them on a number of trips. They just returned home yesterday.
I was privileged to join them for a mini holiday to the UK to visit London and Bath. I was my first trip away from Emma and Helena. I missed the girls but I had a wonderful time seeing the sights. London was big, exciting, and full of history. There was so much to see but we were only there 2.5 days. We got a nice overview of the city and I cannot wait to return someday to see it in more detail. Bath England was an amazing city. In 1943 my Grandmother and Grandfather, on my mothers side, meet, fell in love, and 6 weeks later were married at the Bath Abby. We were so blessed to be able to stand on the spot in the church were my grandparents took there vows during the 2nd world war. We learned that Bath Abby had been damaged during bombings and its appearance then was no way near its pristine appearance it has today. It was like stepping back in time. We also visited the Ancient Roman Baths House that is located only steps away from the Abby. I was in awe of this site and of the advanced nature of the Roman Culture. I returned back to Switzerland alone and my parent continued their adventure in the Uk of another 10 days.
I late July we left for Croatia. 2 cars, 2 kids, 4 adults and a lot of stuff we began our drive at 5:00 am. 11 hours later we had gone through 4 countries and arrived in Pula Croatia in Istrian part of the country. Dejan's father has bought land just outside Pula and is building their dream home. This year he has spent most of his time in Pula to over see the building site. He has rented a nice bottom floor apartment in which we were all welcomed into with open arms. It was a very relaxing weeks. Beside a bit if holiday stomach flu suffered by my dad and I everyone else had a great time.
At weeks end we packed up and drove to the Dalmatian region on the coast to a city called Sibenik. Here we got a water taxi to our Island home for the next week, Zlarin. A car free, lazy, one store, 3 restaurant fishing Island where we rented a cute town house in the village. It took a few days to slow down to the Island pace of life but once we did we did not want to leave.
At the end of our stay we traveled back to Pula and then up to Italy to visit with friends. They live just outside of Venice. We took advantage of this and did a quick day trip into the city. When we arrived in Venice we were blasted by the heat Humidity and the sear number of people whom where all out to see the sight like us. It was a whirlwind day of shops canals and small streets but a memorable on just the same. After 2 nights in Italy and some great Pizza we headed back into our cars for our journey home. The drive home was a holiday in itself. We deiced to drive over an Alpine pass instead of taking the 17 K tunnel the goes under the mountain. Here we saw God's wondrous creative power at our fingertips. I can indeed say that Switzerland is a gloriously beautiful country.
We had a wonderful holiday. We feel refreshed and ready for the work ahead of us.
